Welcome to GCC Juniors
At GCC we pride ourselves on our Junior section. We have the largest junior section in the area, a great record of introducing boys and girls to cricket and developing their cricket abilities in a fun environment. We welcome boys and girls of all age groups & abilities from the village and the wider community.
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is to ensure all the boys and girls coming to our club enjoy learning and playing the game in a friendly, safe and welcoming environment. We want them to develop a lifelong love of the greatest game in the world.
Many of our children progress to representative levels for Oldham District, Lancashire, and national academies. However, we are firmly committed to ensuring all children coming to GCC develop their cricket skills, enjoy their cricket and build their confidence.
Hear from our Juniors
Check out our Player Profiles. Hear from our juniors on their experience of our junior section and how they have progressed their cricket journey.
Coaching
We have a team of ECB trained & DBS checked coaches.
We also employ Paul Connolly as our Head of Junior Development. Paul has been a member of the Oldham Cricket Development group for 20 years and for the last 8 years has been its chair. He has also worked extensively with the District and Inter League programmes and is the current coach of the GMCL under 13s side. He is also a qualified MSc Sports Psychologist and has worked in the Premier League and First-Class County Cricket.
Pathway to Senior Cricket
It is no accident or surprise that a large percentage of our 5 senior teams are made up of players who have progressed from our junior teams. Have a look at our Player Profiles on the website and hear from our juniors directly.
Our Senior 4th XI is specifically focused on introducing our junior boys and girls into senior cricket. The team typically contains 3-4 senior players with the remainder being juniors. Our Women’s team has a similar structure.
Does it matter if I have never played cricket before?
Absolutely not. New boys and girls are always very welcome regardless of ability, all we ask is that you play with a smile on your face.
